The south-west: Costa Adeje and La Caleta
Most private events on the island happen here, and for good reason. The south-west is the sunniest, driest part of Tenerife, with the most reliable evenings outdoors and sunsets over the neighbouring island of La Gomera. Costa Adeje concentrates many of the island's best hotels, restaurants and beach clubs, and the hills behind it hold modern villas with wide sea views.
La Caleta, a former fishing village at the northern end of Costa Adeje, is quieter and more intimate: seafood restaurants on the water and clifftop properties a few minutes away. For a private villa event, this stretch of coast is usually where we start looking.
Guía de Isora and the west coast
North of Costa Adeje the coast grows calmer and less built up. Around Guía de Isora there are large resort estates and secluded villas facing La Gomera, and further on the village of Los Gigantes sits beneath cliffs that rise several hundred metres out of the sea. It is the setting for sunset dinners that need space and privacy, and the starting point for many yacht charters.
The marinas
Puerto Colón in Costa Adeje, Marina San Miguel near Golf del Sur and the harbour at Los Gigantes are where most private charters begin. Choosing the marina is part of choosing the route: Los Gigantes puts you closest to the cliffs, Puerto Colón closest to the hotels.
The north: estates, vineyards and old towns
The north of Tenerife is greener, cooler and more historic. The Orotava Valley has old estates and manor houses with courtyards and gardens. Tacoronte-Acentejo was the first designated wine region in the Canary Islands, and its bodegas host private lunches and tastings. San Cristóbal de La Laguna, a UNESCO World Heritage city, keeps its colonial-era streets and palaces.
The trade-off is the weather: summer can bring low cloud, and evenings are cooler than in the south. For an outdoor event we plan the timing carefully and always keep a covered alternative. For a long lunch among the vines or a dinner in a historic house, the north is often the most memorable part of the island.
Teide and the mountains
Teide National Park, also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is protected and is not a place for private events. It is, however, one of the best places in Europe to look at the night sky, and a guided stargazing session at altitude — about an hour's drive from the coast, above the clouds — is a remarkable addition to a weekend.
Santa Cruz
The capital suits city-style evenings: restaurants, rooftop terraces and cultural venues, with the Anaga mountains rising behind. It is less common for private celebrations than the south, but well placed for corporate programmes and for guests flying into Tenerife North.
How to choose
Start with the guests and the season rather than the venue. Who is travelling, and how far will they want to move during the stay? Is the evening meant to be outdoors? Is there a sunset to plan around? Most groups stay in the south-west and add one experience elsewhere — a lunch in the north, an afternoon at sea, an hour under the stars. If you would like help putting it together, tell us about the occasion.
